Out with the old and in with the new.
Today's post is going to focus on the trends that made it big in 2017 and explore what trends are to come in 2018 from Pantone's colour of the year to statement-making earrings.
To recap here is what was super cool in 2017
1. The colour of the year - Greenery
The Jolly Green Giant / the Hulk chic / Oscar de la Grouch ...call it what you will but Pantone's colour of the year for 2017, 'Greenery' was seen all over.
Would you dare to wear this green patent leather jacket?
Pro tip: mix unexpected prints together for a chic surprise!
We love this green shirt paired with simple blue jeans and black booties.
2. Beret Hats
"Bonjour! Voila, le french hat! Voila le french fry!" - Carrie Bradshaw upon entry into Mr. Big's apartment in Sex in the City carrying a bag of McDonald's in hand whilst wearing a beret on her head.
McDonald's is a classic and while the French beret is a timeless piece in its own right 2017 was the year it shined.
This look so perfectly combines the classic look of the beret with the athleisure trend of the luxe tracksuit pants.
Leather berets to say you're sweet but edgy.
3. Newboys caps
Along with the beret, the newsboy cap made a resurgence worn by everyone from A-list actors to bloggers.
This hat + stripes = the best combo
4. Statement Earrings
Make a statement...with your earrings
One of the biggest trends of 2017 was suiting! Whether it be a full suit, checked bottoms, or plaid blazers, in 2017 women wore the pants.
I spy green shoes!
6. Sports luxe looks
Our favourite comfy trend is the sports luxe look. A simple stripe running down the side of your pants is all that you needed to be cool in '17.
7. Fanny packs and crossbody bags
The one I hated at first and have grown to actually be into....the good old fanny pack and crossbody bags. The dislike is more towards the fanny pack rather than the crossbody
8. Block Heels
We hope this comfy alternative to stilettos never go out of style - the block heel and bootie!
And now for the 2018 trend forecast
1. Human silhouettes.
Do you need an explanation for that one?
The newest and coolest trend, specifically in jewelry is the outline of parts of the human body. The best part is that this trend can go with anything.
These earrings designed by Die Motte are the perfect example of this trend.
These are from Die Motte as well.
2. Cold tones.
Gold has been huge for the last few years but now is the time to start thinking of metals, platinum, and white gold.
3. Colour and innovative materials such as enamels, acrylic, and organic stones.
This year we are going to start seeing more geometric shapes and mixed materials!
4. Cat eye sunglasses
with a twist...the frames have gotten smaller this time around
5. Purple packed with a punch.
Pantone's colour of the year is UltraViolet, a bold purple hue.
Always a fan of the unexpected purple and yellow
The luxe life in purple velvet
6. Life in plastic? It's fantastic.
Chanel is doing it.
7. Mod about florals.
Floral prints borrowed from the 60s.
Spotted on the Marc Jacobs Spring 2018 runway.
And at Marni
8. Warhol, Monet, and Van Gogh...art infused fashion is sure to catch the eye
